El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie - trailer

The question on everyone’s lips going into new Breaking Bad film sequel El Camino is whether Bryan Cranston shows up as Walter White.

Despite the fact the follow-up is focused on Jesse Pinkman and his life after being freed from captivity in the acclaimed television drama’s series finale, fans have continually been theorising as to how White could return.

Days before its release on Netflix, creator Vince Gilligan – who has written and directed the film – confirmed that Pinkman’s meth cooking partner perished in the show’s closing moments, which put paid to any appearance in El Camino.

Right?

Spoilers below – you have been warned

Well, in a word, no. El Camino features over 10 cameos from Breaking Bad characters, ranging from Jesse’s parents to creepy Todd (Jesse Plemons).

While you can find a full list of those characters here, we can confirm that Cranston does indeed return for a flashback scene showing Walter and Jesse in the early days of the show.

It’s bittersweet to see Jesse as a relatively carefree individual, tucking into his bowl of free fruit and salad in an Albuquerque diner that has the pair’s iconic RV parked on the drive outside.

In the scene, Jesse promises Walter that his family, Skylar (Anna Gunn) and Walt Jr (RJ Mitte), will receive every dime they make from the meth they cook.

It ends with Walt looking out of the diner window at their RV, saying: You’re really lucky, you know? That you didn’t have to wait your whole life to do something special.”
