Birds of Prey (2020) - trailer

The first trailer for Birds of Prey has been released, marking Margot Robbie’s return as Harley Quinn.

In the two-minute clip, Quinn gives viewers some insight into what she’s been up to since the events depicted in the 2016 Suicide Squad, which marked Robbie’s debut as the character.

“The Joker and I broke up,” she announces in a definite goodbye to Jared Leto’s character, who was Quinn’s toxic love interest in Suicide Squad. (The Joker, however, is getting his own controversial character-study film starring Joaquin Phoenix as the protagonist.)

Ewan McGregor, meanwhile, features as the crime lord Black Mask, who threatens a girl named Cassandra Cain (Ella Jay Basco) whom Quinn is trying to protect with the help of three other characters.

“Here’s the deal, Quinn. You need me,” Black Mask insists as Edith Piaf’s “Hymne à l’amour”, a popular French song dating back to 1950, plays in the background.

Quinn, however, doesn’t seem too impressed as she narrates: “I’m the one they should be scared of. ... Because I’m Harley freaking Quinn!”

The trailer also includes a humorous tidbit in which Quinn declines to be called a “chick”, though she will accept “broad, lady, woman, and on occasion b****”.
