A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood trailer (2019)

The first trailer for A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood has been released, giving a first look at Tom Hanks‘s moving portrayal of Fred Rogers.

Based on a true story, the film tells the story of Rogers through the eyes of a journalist (played by Matthew Rhys) tasked with writing a profile of the beloved television personality – which turns out to be a life-changing assignment.

It is inspired by the experience of journalist Tom Junod, who in 1998 wrote a profile of Rogers and described how his perspective on life had changed through his interactions with him.

In the newly released trailer, Hanks brings to life Rogers’s kind temperament, which endeared him to his many fans throughout decades.

“I think the best thing we can do is to let people know that each one of them is precious,” Hanks’s Rogers says in the clip.

The trailer also features a scene in which the passengers of a subway car spot Rogers and start singing the theme song of his children’s television series Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, which ran from 1968 to 2001.

A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood will be released on 22 November, 2019 in the US and on 6 December, 2019 in the UK.
